QuickCSGModeling: Quick CSG Operations Based on Fusing Signed Distance Fields for VR Modeling

The latest advancements in Virtual Reality(VR) enable the creation of 3D models within a holographic immersive simulation environment. In this paper, we create QuickCSGModeling , user-friendly mid-air interactive modeling system. We first prepare dataset consisting diverse components and precompute discrete signed distance function (SDF) for each component. During phase, users can freely design complicated shapes with pair VR controllers. Based on SDF representation, any CSG-like operation (union, intersection subtraction) be performed voxel-wisely. Also, maintain single dynamic whole scene, whose zero-level set surface exactly encodes most recent constructed shape. Both fusion extraction are implemented via GPU smooth user experience. 34 volunteers were asked to their favorite using QuickCSGModeling. With simple training, them fascinating shape or even descriptive scene quickly. also discuss how extend our system articulated hinges, where an adaptive cube subdivision has enforced improve reconstruction accuracy around hinge part, followed by Dual Contouring-based extraction.
